Are you kind to yourself?
Do you speak respectfully to yourself?
Are the names or adjectives you call yourself the ones you would say to your friend?
If you told others the way you talk to yourself, would they be shocked?
Speak kindly to yourself. This will flow out of truly loving yourself.
We all want others to love us but we need to love ourselves too! Not because of your physical appearance, talents and abilities, popularity, or possessions. Love yourself because GOD LOVES YOU. The Creator of the universe made you and adores you! He sent His Son to die for you! He cares deeply for you and wants you to know Him. And because you are so valuable and beautiful in His perfect, loving sight, you can and should love yourself.
Know and believe the value God gives you. Know the priceless worth He gives you! Out of this belief, love who God made you to be. Love His precious creation: YOU. Because of the God-given love you have for yourself, speak to yourself as you would to someone you love! Speak to yourself as God would want you to—even better—> as God Himself would speak to you! When you make a mistake, don’t call yourself stupid or an idiot! (I am guilty of this.😐) Literally everybody makes mistakes. When you look at a picture of yourself or look in the mirror, don’t call yourself ugly. Don’t call yourself trash. (One of my mom’s pet peeves.) God didn’t make anything ugly. God didn’t make trash. God made you in HIS IMAGE. His beautiful image. He loves you SO MUCH.
Love yourself and speak to yourself in a way that reflects God’s beautiful design of YOU.
Here are some reminders from God’s Word:
- The words we speak (even in our minds) are powerful—>Proverbs 18:21: “Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.” (The Message version)
- Loving yourself and others—>Mark 12:31a: “The second (greatest commandment) is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” (New International Version) How can you do this if you don’t love yourself?
- We are God’s beautiful creation—>Psalm 139: 13-14: “For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” (New International Version)
